IT Systems and Database Administrator

Job Description

Our client is a well respected marketing business, who provide B2B direct marketing services to the technology sector.

They are now looking to recruit an experienced Systems and Database Administrator, on a full-time, permanent basis. The ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker, with the desire to continuously monitor and improve the company’s processes, database and IT infrastructure.

This is a multi-faceted role, encompassing extensive database administration, with general in-house technical support. The position is varied and offers the successful applicant a long-term position in a role with future developmental opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

IT & Telephony Systems Management

  • Offering technical assistance to internal and external clients
  • Responding to technical assistance queries in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that all technical assistance requests are logged via a ticketing system
  • Logging and reporting on all technical assistance tasks
  • Maintaining an IT asset inventory, along with refresh, upgrade and contract renewal cycles
  • Providing leadership in the testing and roll-out of system upgrades and software patching
  • Making formal recommendations on how IT and telephony can be improved
  • Keeping all departments abreast of pending downtime or disruptions to the network
  • Hosting and maintaining of website domains and platforms
  • Maintaining a clear dialogue and relationship with all 3rd party suppliers

Company Database Maintenance

  • Improving the quality of the company end user database
  • De-duplicating the database to ensure high quality of data
  • Looking to grow the volume of accurate data
  • Researching the UK&I market for database expansion
  • Matching of data for campaigns or clients purchases
  • Keeping log of all client data purchases and list demographics
  • Maintaining email delivery rates and looking to improve these continuously


  • Producing weekly reports and insights for various business departments, such as: telemarketing statistics, database cleansing, as well as database trends and patterns
  • Quarterly reporting for clients on results and ROI

Ad-Hoc System Modifications

  • Requesting ‘wish lists’ from various departments for system modifications to bolster the business operation (ad-hoc)
  • Scoping and mapping out technical specifications for approved mods
  • Liaising with the designated system developers to roll out project briefings for each approved mod
  • Testing of new mods
  • Rolling out of new mods into a live production, upon successful testing

Skills/experience required:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related computing/computer science subject.
  • Experienced in an office-based IT/Technical Support environment, with use of a ticketing system for support calls.
  • Able to work under own initiative and with minimal supervision.
  • Experienced database administrator, able to build reports (in Excel).
  • Generally excellent IT expertise and an ability to troubleshoot problems and maintain smoothly-working systems and infrastructure.
  • Able to work to deadlines and have very good communication skills.
