Job Description

Our client is a well-respected national charity who provide an outstanding level of service within the care sector. They are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Head of HR lead to work closely with the HR Director in the development and implementation of key HR initiatives, and to provide a proactive HR service in line with the strategic objectives of this organisation. You will join the team at an exciting time, as they continue with their ambitious transformational change programme, where this position will play a key role. You will have oversight of the effective implementation of a new self-service HR/Payroll system, in addition to supporting the HR Business Partners to manage a full range of complex ER cases and TUPE transfers with the aim of building the capability of the internal management teams. This position represents a great opportunity to contribute and add value to the strategic objectives of the organisation through pragmatic HR solutions and projects.

Please note: This role predominantly a home working/remote role, but the head office is based in Thame, therefore the successful candidate will live within a realistic commute distance (2hrs max) from Thame, Oxfordshire to attend meetings on site once a month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the HR Director in the development and implementation of HR projects and wider HR strategy to meet operational and organisational needs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the HR Project Manager and HR/Payroll System Implementation team on the implementation of a new HR/Payroll System, including managing supplier relationships, ensuring the system is implemented in line with the principles and outcomes set out in the business case.
  • Lead and develop three HR Business Partners and the HR Operations Manager, giving oversight to complex employee relations issues, absence management and change initiatives including TUPE transfers to ensure processes are being followed to deliver positive outcomes.
  • Support the review of our remuneration policy and practice alongside external benchmarks to ensure the organisation is competitive and able to attract and retain a workforce with the right skills and values.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of our equality and diversity strategy and plans to promote and embed an inclusive culture across the organisation.
  • Working closely with operational leaders and the Head of Learning and Development, to develop and implement the desired approach to career development and succession planning.
  • Research projects and produce concise and pertinent reports and updates for the senior leadership team.
  • Develop and update policies to reflect current legislation, best practice and operational requirements.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to line managers to develop skills and confidence in the application of people initiatives.
  • Analyse data, identifying trends and patterns to establish potential issues and opportunities and proactively work with Divisions to address concerns.
  • Ensure HR processes and practices are working effectively and supporting organisational requirements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a Head of HR (or similar senior level HR role) is essential.
  • CIPD qualified (minimum Level 5, or equivalent by experience).
  • Experience in working in a dynamic, multi-site environment where the workforce largely works on rotas, varying shift patterns is essential, with previous experience working in the Social Care Sector being highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting the implementation and/or upgrade/migration of a HR system.
  • Confident acting as an escalation point for the HRBP’s managing complex employee relations issues.
  • Confident supporting TUPE, experience with both TUPE in and out with an understanding of working with various T&C’s.
  • Experience of working on strategic HR projects such as remuneration, succession planning and equality and diversity.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and best practice employee relations management, including ACAS Codes of Practice.
  • Proactive and pragmatic in approach with excellent people skills.
