Whilst office-based customer service salaries have not changed a great deal over the last 12 months, we have noticed a sharp increase in retail salaries since early 2017, especially within Oxfordshire. Demand in the region started to outstrip supply with the expansion of Bicester Village retail outlet in late 2017 and also the opening of the Oxford Westgate Shopping Centre at the same time. We are seeing more variation in duties within the customer service job sector. Whilst all of the roles have remained focused on servicing clientele, responsibilities can vary widely in smaller organisations. We are seeing diversity with duties such as debt collection and more customer administration - especially with the recent changes to the data protection legislation. With this in mind, administrative skills are becoming more important and we are being asked to administer more skills testing during the interview process.
