Job Description

Our client is a leading supplier of cleaning and hygiene products across the UK and Ireland and have significant plans for growth over the next 5 years. The business has fostered an inclusive, family-friendly culture and their workforce is made up of hardworking, driven people who are rewarded fantastically for their efforts. The business is now looking to recruit an experienced Head of New Business to join the company, to enable them to embark on their growth plans.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a New Business/Business Development Manager within their sector, selling commercial cleaning/hygiene/chemical products (or similar consumables) and enjoy working in a proactive, autonomous style using their own initiative to develop new relationships and drive results. The company sells it’s products via distributors, so you will need to be used to building distributor relationships with both existing partners, or new partners.

Please note: This is a home-based role with travel to client/customer sites (sometimes overnight stays will be necessary) so a car allowance will be included in the employment package, but you must have your own vehicle (or be prepared to purchase a car) for this role. As the role is UK-wide, you would ideally live within a central part of England, to enable reasonable commuting times to most parts of the country.

Main Objectives:

  • To win new business by selling the whole range of company products.
  • To build strong relationships and networks direct with the decision makers for large and national accounts, to expand the distributor network and to drive presence into new markets.
  • To build a strong and expansive pipeline of quality sales opportunities and convert them into sustainable trading partners.
  • Seek out prospective new business contracts either within the existing distributor network, or externally. Prospects could be within hospitality, healthcare, leisure, facilities management, but also include public sector/government contracts.
  • Take a lead on putting together bids/tender documentation alongside other relevant stakeholders within the company, prepare presentations, proposals and sales quotes.
  • Arrange meetings and visit prospect customer sites.
  • Source and follow up on new leads and referrals.
  • Record all sales activity on internal CRM system.
  • Update sales reports covering sales activities, leads, proposals and deals closed
  • Share information and/or feedback gathered through field activity to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with all customers.
  • Training other distributors’ sales teams where required.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in a Business Development Manager role within the cleaning/hygiene product supplies industry is essential.
  • Experienced with selling into distributor networks and with building strong commercial relationships at all levels.
  • Proven track record of successfully working to, and hitting, sales targets.
  • IT literate and experienced using a CRM system and a confident user of the MS Office suite.
  • Appetite to learn and develop an excellent product knowledge.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Tenacity, drive, and self-motivation with the ability to work autonomously and manage your own diary.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Full clean driving license and own transport essential.
